Obtaining Records and Reviewing Court Files

ECF Cases

Documents in cases stored in the Electronic Case Filing System (ECF) can be accessed through PACER terminals set up in the public area at the Clerk's Office at each bankruptcy court location.  Case Dockets and documents may be viewed on the terminal screens free of charge and printed out at a cost of $0.10 per page.  Further details may be obtained here.

Documents in cases filed prior to December 1, 2003 that are stored in ECF, may only be viewed at the PACER terminals located at the Clerk's Office

Non-ECF/Archived Cases

Cases not stored in ECF have been archived at the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Lee's Summit, Missouri.  Detailed information about the process of obtaining archived records may be obtained here.

Title 18 U.S. Code Section 2071 states :

(a)

Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so; or, with intent to do so, takes and carries away any records, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined not more than $2,000 or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
